The Full Story

In its first year at Glastonbury, PEEQUAL had forty urinals split between the Pyramid Stage and the Stone Circle. These were built and installed a week before the festival started, however, we are able to set the units up in less than a day with our simple flat-pack design.

Over the course of the festival, they were used by thousands of women, thousands of times. Despite this traffic, the urinal units at both sites remained clean across the four day weekend, without any lingering mess or nasty smells.

A combination of PEEQUAL’s senior team and WaterAid volunteers staffed the facilities throughout the duration of the festival. As a new addition to the festival, their job was to educate, encourage, and keep users safe throughout. Our volunteer model ensured that Glastonbury attendees had peace of mind that they were in a safe, hygienic, and private space.

Testimonials

‘It is so important to provide women at festivals with fair and equal toilet facilities. That’s why we’ve worked with WaterAid for years to provide variations of women's urinals. When I started talking to Amber and Hazel about PEEQUAL I knew I had to see it in action. At Glastonbury the reaction from the public was amazing, they were received so well and people want to see more of them! It’s a great product, it’s bright, vibrant, and adds to the experience at Glastonbury. We’ll definitely be using PEEQUAL again and I hope other festivals will take it onboard and make space for them.’

Jane Healy

Glastonbury Festival Sanitation Manager

‘We've loved working with Peequal, the most sustainable and easy to use female urinal on the market at Glastonbury and other festivals this year. WaterAid works around the world to help girls access safe, private toilets that they can use with dignity. The synergy in our work with Peequal's passion for equality brought us together at festivals across the summer, and we'll continue to work together to make sure everyone, everywhere has a decent place to pee. We’ve had loads of great feedback from festival goers and organisers about how brilliant they are. It’s a no-brainer, we’ll definitely be working together again!’

Rachel Marshall

WaterAid Senior Festivals Officer (Operations and Logistics)

‘It was truly wonderful to play a very small part in the huge success of PEEQUAL at Glastonbury. It was a privilege to be able to tell everyone a little bit about your wonderful innovation. Thanks so much for taking the time to meet us, tell us all about it, and check-in on every shift - it really made me feel like part of the team. Good luck with the next steps in taking PEEQUAL forward, I’ll be looking out for you!’
