THE BACKGROUND:
Stendhal Festival is Northern Ireland’s longest running independent outdoor music and arts festival, held annually in Limavady. With over 10,000 people on site across arena and campsite areas, the event faces the same sanitation responsibilities as any festival at scale: standard portable toilets mean long queues for women, lost time away from stages and camp, and a toilet experience that falls well short of the rest of the event.
Future Events Hire, led by General Manager Sarah McClean, saw an opportunity: bring PEEQUAL to a market it hadn’t reached, and prove it could be done without PEEQUAL’s own crew on the ground.
WHY PEEQUAL?
Future Events Hire chose PEEQUAL because it:
- Travels and deploys as a standalone product. Units are flat-packed and stackable, 56 to a full artic, and each one assembles in about 90 seconds with no tools and no specialist crew. Waterless, so no plumbing to design around.
- Moves the numbers that matter to an organiser. PEEQUAL is 2.7× more efficient than a standard portable toilet, women queue up to 3× less, and each visit gives an attendee back around 11 minutes. Across the 1.25 million women who have used the units to date, 99% said they would use PEEQUAL again.
- Fits an existing sanitation setup. PEEQUAL sat alongside the festival’s incumbent portable toilet provider, with tankering coordinated between the two. It complements a welfare offer rather than replacing it.
- Solves something nobody else was solving locally. No women’s urinal had been offered at an Irish festival before, which gave Future Events Hire a genuine point of difference to take to organisers.

THE SOLUTION
Future Events Hire delivered 40 PEEQUAL units to Stendhal Festival, distributed across five locations to cover both the live music and camping areas: two sites within the arena and three across the campsites.
What dry hire meant in practice
PEEQUAL’s involvement began and ended with getting the product to the Future Events Hire yard. From there, our PEEQUAL Partners Future Events Hire and the Stendhal site team took on the whole operation: transport to site by articulated lorry, build, on-site staffing, tankering in coordination with the event’s existing portable toilet provider, servicing, and breakdown. No PEEQUAL crew was on site at any point.
How the units were presented
The site team set the units within Heras fencing with a hessian modesty screen and signage, using PEEQUAL’s pre-event communications toolkit. Site presentation is one of the first questions organisers ask, and Stendhal is a straightforward answer: screening and dressing are the site team’s call, and they can be handled to the event’s own standard without PEEQUAL specifying it.
Servicing
The units were serviced twice a day across the three show days, which is above the once-daily schedule PEEQUAL considers standard. Waterless design means servicing only involves bin bag replacement and tank emptying, not flushing or fresh-water supply.
Logistics:
- Units delivered to site by articulated lorry ahead of the festival’s 2-4th July run
- Distributed across 5 zones – 2 arena, 3 campsite – to spread queue relief across the whole site footprint
- Build, on-site staffing, tankering (in coordination with the event’s existing portable toilet provider), cleaning and breakdown all managed independently by Stendhal Festival’s own team, without PEEQUAL crew on site
THE IMPACT & RESULTS
Operational benefits
The dry-hire model proved that PEEQUAL can be handed over as a standalone product and run entirely by a third party’s own crew – build, staffing, tankering and breakdown included – without PEEQUAL’s involvement on the ground. For toilet providers evaluating PEEQUAL, this is proof of a genuinely different way to work with the product, alongside PEEQUAL’s usual full-service model.
Usage & Uptake
40 units spread across 5 locations – split between arena and campsite areas – meant provision followed attendees across the whole site, not just around the main stages.
User Experience
Anticipation started before the gates even opened: Stendhal shared an Instagram story of the PEEQUAL units arriving on site by lorry, with visible excitement from the festival’s own audience.
Planning a festival outside PEEQUAL’s usual footprint – or considering a different hire model?
If you’re a toilet provider or distributor: PEEQUAL units are sold outright or on lease-to-buy, in multiples of 16, up to a full arctic of 56 units. Of course, you can buy multiple lorry-loads too! We support partners with assembly guides, DWG site layouts, the pre-event communications toolkit, marketing assets and pricing guidance, so the product can be quoted and run under your own name from the first event. Let’s talk about your territory and your calendar.
If you’re an event organiser: we can look at your footprint, your audience and consult the number of units optimal for your site, whether that’s served directly by PEEQUAL or by a partner in your region.
